Five Eczema Triggers We Removed

Every one is a documented contact irritant — and every one is missing from Sothee.

  1. The waistband

There isn't one. No band, no casing, no elastic thread anywhere. The knit runs to the edge and stops.

  2. The seams

One continuous tube. No side seams, no back seam. Two bartacks — the entire stitch count.

  3. The hem

Every edge laser-cut. Nothing folded, bound or taped — no ridge against your skin at 3am.

  4. The finishing chemistry

Screened under STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: no formaldehyde, no azo dyes, skin-neutral pH.

  5. The word “hypoallergenic”

It means nothing on its own — you have bought it before. We hand you certificate numbers you can check.

What’s In the Fabric

You already read every label. Here is ours, explained.

72.8%
Polyamide

The body of the knit. Stretch that moves with you instead of gripping one line. This is what holds the shape that a waistband used to hold.

10.4%
Silver-ionic polyester

Silver spun into the yarn, not sprayed onto the surface. Sprayed finishes rinse out. This one earned the top antibacterial grade and was still working after 300 washes.

16.8%
Spandex

Enough spring to stay put all day. Not enough to bite. The whole fabric now does the job the elastic band was doing badly.

2
Bartacks — the total stitch count

One at each top corner. That is every stitch on the garment. There is nothing else sewn, anywhere, for your skin to find.

What to expect

Nights 0–60, for eczema-prone skin

Sothee promises the fabric. The skin findings below belong to independent research on silver textiles — not to us.

Night 1
  • Every contact trigger is gone: no elastic, no seams, no harsh dyes
  • No line on your hips when you undress
  • The feel customers compare to $68 big-name seamless athleticwear
Week 2
  • The window where a double-blind trial measured eczema improvement in patients wearing silver-textile clothing*
  • Silver keeps working through every wash — it is spun into the yarn
Week 4
  • Rotation habit: wear, machine-wash, dry in hours, repeat
  • Your other pairs start feeling like sandpaper by comparison
Night 60
  • You decide, not us
  • Still not right? Full refund — worn and washed

You Have Already Bought the Cotton.

Three multipacks. The bamboo ones. The medical-looking pair that arrived at twice the price and looked like a bandage. The band, the seam and the dye survived every one of those switches — because none of those switches touched them. That is the variable still sitting on the table.

Why We Built Sothee

A doctor tells you to switch to hypoallergenic underwear. That is the entire instruction. Which ones, what makes a pair qualify, what to avoid — none of that comes with it.

So you go looking. What comes back is a five-pack of cotton that fails the same way the last five-pack failed, or something medical-looking priced as though you have run out of options. Both assume the fibre was the problem.

We started from the complaints instead of the category. Read enough of them and the same three words keep surfacing: the band, the seam, the dye. Almost never the fibre itself. People had been changing the one variable that was not causing it.

So the garment got built around removing those three, and the cloth went to a third party to be screened, so what we say about it is something you can check rather than something you have to take on faith. No steroid. Nothing to apply. Something you put on.

We Would Rather You Not Buy These

…if the right column sounds like you.

Built for you if

  • The waistband mark is still there an hour later
  • You switched to cotton and it did not help
  • Seams sit right where it hurts
  • Sleeping with none on is the only relief
  • Told to buy “hypoallergenic” — never told which

Not for you if

  • You want a treatment — this is only underwear
  • You need shaping or compression
  • You want a five-pack under $30
  • Fabric touch has never been your trigger

Questions We Get A Lot

How is this different from the cotton or bamboo pairs I've already tried?

Cotton and bamboo change the fibre. They don't change the three things people actually name when they describe a reaction: the elastic band, the stitched seam, and the dye and finishing chemistry.

A cotton five-pack still has a waistband with elastic in a casing. It still has four to six stitched seams. Its dye lot is whatever the mill ran that week.

Sothee isn't a different-fibre argument. It's the same garment with the band removed, the seams removed, the edges cut instead of hemmed, and the finishing chemistry screened and documented.

Worth saying plainly: if the fibre itself was genuinely your issue, this won't fix it. Better to know that before you order.

How long until I notice something?

Night one. The missing waistband is what people mention first — there's no line, and nothing to reach down and adjust.

Week one. Usually when they stop getting rotated to the back of the drawer and start being the pair you look for.

Week four and past it. The durability question answers itself. The silver is spun into the yarn rather than coated onto it, so it doesn't rinse out, and the shape holds because the whole knit carries the tension a band used to carry alone.

We deliberately don't publish a skin timeline here. Sothee is a garment, not a treatment. How your skin responds to removing a contact trigger is a conversation for you and your doctor, not a number for us to promise.

$30 a pair? Why does this cost more than a multipack?

Honest answer: because of what the construction costs.

A waistband is the cheapest thing to add to underwear and the most expensive thing to remove. Knitting in the round as one continuous tube with no side seam, then laser-cutting every edge instead of folding and stitching it, runs slower and wastes more cloth. Screening each run for formaldehyde, azo dyes and pH is a cost per lot, not a cost once.

That is also why the pairs are sold in twos, fours and sixes rather than singly — the per-pair price falls the further down that run we go, and we would rather pass that on than charge everyone the single-pair rate.

Set against what is already in your drawer, the maths is less dramatic than it looks. Most people reading this have bought three or four multipacks hunting for one that worked. That search has already been paid for — it just did not buy anything you kept wearing.

And if the band was never your problem, a supermarket multipack is genuinely the better buy. We would rather you spent the money somewhere it does something.

Is the silver safe against skin? Will it wash out?

The silver is ionic and spun into the yarn itself rather than sprayed on as a surface finish. That matters twice: a coating is the part that rinses away in the wash, and it's also the part most able to come off onto skin.

Because it sits in the fibre, the antibacterial result was re-tested after 300 wash cycles and was still there. The silver is EPA-registered and approved under the EU Biocidal Products Regulation, and the finished cloth is screened under STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® for direct skin contact.

One thing to be clear about: the antibacterial grade is measured on the fabric. It describes what happens on the cloth. It is not a claim about anything happening inside your body, and we don't make one.

What if they don't work for me?

Sixty nights, then one email.

Wear them. Wash them. Sleep in them. If your skin disagrees with them, write to us inside 60 nights and we refund the order. There's nothing to send back — worn underwear isn't something we want returned, and a policy that demands it is really just a policy designed to be annoying enough that you give up.

We picked 60 nights rather than 30 because one laundry cycle tells you almost nothing. You need enough wears to know whether the absence of a band is something you genuinely notice, or just something that reads well on a page like this one.
